Law Student Awards

The Executive Council of the City, County and Local Government Law Section of the Florida Bar (“CCLGLS”) is proud to introduce an annual award program dedicated to fostering the next generation of local government law professionals. This program will provide a $500 award and a commemorative plaque to one outstanding law student from each accredited law school in the State of Florida.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
This opportunity is open to full-time or part-time law students currently enrolled in any of Florida’s accredited law schools. Eligible applicants should have a demonstrated interest in public interest law, particularly in areas affecting city, county, and local governments.

APPLICATION AND AWARD PROCESS
Interested students are invited to apply directly or be nominated by other admitted members of the Florida Bar. Applications/nominations must be submitted by the annual deadline indicated below.
The application/nomination at a minimum, must include the following information:

  1. Applicant/Nominee information: Name, law school, year of study, email address, and telephone number.
  2. Academic/Professional Background: Relevant coursework (if applicable), internships/externships (related to public interest/local government law)
  3. Extracurricular activities: Law school organizations, volunteer work, and awards and recognitions
  4. Nominating Individual’s information (if applicable): Name, position title, organization, relationship to nominee, email address, and telephone number.
  5. Synopsis: A summary (four pages maximum) of why the nominee/applicant should receive the CCLGLS Law Student Award, clearly identifying academic, professional, and extracurricular activities in the area of city, county and local government law.

Additional materials such as news articles, resumes, transcripts, personal statements are not required, but are welcome and may be included with an application/nomination.

The award recipient from each school will be law student whose curriculum, professional, and extracurricular activities show a demonstrated interest in local government law, academic achievement, and potential for future impact in the field. Selected award recipients will be recognized and presented with their awards at the CCLGLS Annual Conference in April.
